Allergy
Allergy involves the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems.
Diseases typically seen by an allergist (often referred to simply as an "allergist") include:
Respiratory tract-related conditions such as allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and occupational lung diseases
Skin-related allergic conditions such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, acute and chronic urticaria, or angioedema
Asthma
Symptoms of an asthma attack include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness/pain/pressure.
Asthma is characterized by inflammation of the bronchial tubes with increased production of sticky secretions inside the tubes.
People with respiratory conditions or asthma experience symptoms when the airways tighten, inflame, or fill with mucus. Some people with asthma may go for extended periods without having any symptoms, interrupted by periodic worsening of their symptoms called asthma attacks. Others might have asthma symptoms every day. In addition, some people may only have asthma during exercise, or asthma with viral infections like colds.
Mild asthma attacks are generally more common. Usually, the airways open up within a few minutes to a few hours. Severe attacks are less common but last longer and require immediate medical help. It is important to recognize and treat even mild asthma symptoms to help you prevent severe episodes and

Immunology
Immunology involves the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems.
In cases of immune system over activity, the body attacks and damages its own tissues (autoimmune diseases). Immune deficiency diseases decrease the body's ability to fight invaders, causing vulnerability to infections.
In response to an unknown trigger, the immune system may begin producing antibodies that instead of fighting infections, attack the body’s own tissues. Treatment for autoimmune diseases generally focuses on reducing immune system activity. Examples of autoimmune diseases not covered elsewhere include:
Lupus nephritis – Lupus nephritis is a type of kidney disease caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus). Kidney disease caused by lupus may get worse over time and lead to kidney failure. If your kidneys fail, you will need dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain your health.
Guillain-Barre syndrome – The immune system attacks the nerves controlling muscles in the legs and sometimes the arms and upper body. Weakness results, which can sometimes be severe. Filtering the blood with a procedure called plasmapheresis is the main treatment for Guillain-Barre syndrome.
Infantile Spasms – These specific types of seizures are sudden, uncontrolled movements of a child’s neck, body, arms, and legs. They last only for a few seconds. Spasms are most common during the early morning or when a child wakes up from a nap.
Spasms can look different in each child. But you may notice any of the following symptoms:
Repetitive forward head nodding or bobbing
Bowing from the waist when sitting
Drawing up of knees when lying down
Extending or stiffening of the neck, trunk, arms, and legs
Crossing arms across body as if self-hugging
Thrusting arms to the side, elbows bent
Nephrotic syndrome – A condition marked by very high levels of protein in the urine; low levels of protein in the blood; swelling, especially around the eyes, feet, and hands; and high cholesterol. Nephrotic syndrome results from damage to the kidneys’ glomeruli (the singular form is glomerulus). Glomeruli are a network of capillaries that filter waste and excess water from the blood and send them to the bladder as urine.

Neurology
Neurology is the branch of medicine that is concerned with the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system.
The healthcare provider who specializes in neurology is called a neurologist. After completing medical school, healthcare providers specializing in adult neurology complete 1 year of residency in internal medicine and 3 years of neurology residency.
Neurologists treat disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, including, but not limited to, the following:
Muscle disorders and pain
Headache
Epilepsy
Neuritis and neuropathy
Brain and spinal cord tumors
Multiple sclerosis
Parkinson disease
Stroke
Myasthenia gravis
Muscular dystrophy
Alzheimer disease and other forms of memory problems
As a specialist, the neurologist sees patients with a wide range of problems and may act as a patient's principal or consulting healthcare provider, while the family healthcare provider, or primary care provider, is generally in charge of a patient's total health care.
Rheumatology
Rheumatic diseases affect your joints tendons, ligaments, bones, and muscles. Among them are many types of arthritis, a term used for conditions that affect your joints.
Sometimes they're called musculoskeletal diseases. Common symptoms include:
Joint pain
Loss of motion in a joint or joints
Inflammation -- swelling, redness, and warmth in a joint or affected area
The medical field that studies these types of conditions is called rheumatology. If your regular doctor thinks you have a rheumatic disease, he'll probably send you to a rheumatologist -- a doctor who's specially trained to treat them.
Your rheumatologist will examine you to diagnose your condition, then oversee a treatment plan for you that will likely include medications, regular exercise, a healthy diet, stress management, and rest.
